We can observe and digitally photograph the structures of the eye, but Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) allows us to ‘see under the surface’. It is a non-invasive technology that allows us to visualise cross-sectional and three-dimensional views of the retina and anterior segment of the eye. This enables us to diagnose glaucoma and retinal diseases (including macular degeneration and disease) and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
The data provided by OCT is similar to that provided by ultrasound examination but with some advantages – OCT has significantly higher resolution.
Since its discovery and integration into clinical medicine, OCT has become an important tool in ophthalmology and now optometry. Zeiss head the field of premium optics. We are pleased to be able to offer that Zeiss level of quality in diagnostic technology with our Zeiss OCT.
